IGN Gives "No Sanctuary" a 9.0 Out of 10

A Near Perfect Score

IGN's Matt Fowler, once co-host of the IGN podcast Channel Surfing, give the season 5 premier of The Walking Dead one of its highest scores yet, praising the episode's blend of bad-ass action and momentous character moments. No Sanctuary, he said, was the perfect culmination of all the events last season which built up to this Terminus confrontation.

My Opinion

No Sanctuary was indeed the best season premier The Walking Dead has yet seen. Terminus was a great location for an action-packed episode. Carol was the stand-out character. We've seen her evolve from a timid abused wife to a post-apocalyptic she-warrior, and the pay-off is satisfying. With a great first episode, and the surprising reveal of Morgan at the end, season 5 is looking to shape up into the best season yet. Let's hope Rick and the gang don't get bogged down in a single location, because it seems that the writers rely on that trope too often and for too long. The show is best when the characters are on the move and dealing with a variety of problems.
