Critics Say Season 5 is Best Season Yet

Reviews for the first episodes of season 5 are in, and most critics have nothing but good things to say. "[The Walking Dead's] fifth season seems much more propulsive," says an Atlantic writer, "setting up new plots and moving through them with surprising haste." I have to agree, with the gang constantly on the movie there has been no time for the plot to get bogged down with the single-location stories that have kept past seasons momentum-less.

Another reviewer writes: "Suddenly, we don't have to talk about The Walking Dead as an anomaly on AMC's schedule of masterful dramas. It's fitting right in." This is so true. The Walking Dead, despite being the most popular show on AMC, was never on par with Breaking Bad or Mad Men in terms of quality and characters. TWD has always been good at action, but often the action was spaced out too sparsely, and episodes that should have been exciting were instead filled with hokey and poorly written drama. Season 5 started with what the show does best: action, action, action. The premier episode, instead of breaking up character drama with action, decided to break up the action with character drama; and it worked perfectly. The episode has multiple impactful character moments that were made all the more meaningful by the surrounding death and gore. Hopefully the show has found a groove that it can ride out into a glorious zombie sunset.
